Orthobiologics Knee

Orthobiologics are biological substances used to support the healing of injuries and conditions affecting joints, muscles, tendons, and ligaments. These procedures provide minimally invasive treatment options for various knee conditions, aiming to promote healing, reduce pain, and improve overall joint function. The effectiveness of orthobiologic treatments can vary depending on the specific condition and the individual patient’s response.

1) Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Injection:

PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) therapy involves taking a sample of the patient’s blood, centrifuging it to concentrate the platelets, and then injecting this platelet-rich solution into the knee joint. Platelets contain growth factors that promote tissue repair and regeneration, helping heal knee injuries such as ligament sprains or mild osteoarthritis.

2) Hyaluronic Acid (HA) Injection:

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a naturally occurring substance in the synovial fluid of joints, where it functions as a lubricant and shock absorber. Injecting HA into the knee joint can help relieve osteoarthritis symptoms by providing extra lubrication and cushioning, reducing pain, and improving joint function.

3) Autologous Conditioned Plasma (ACP) Injection:

Autologous Conditioned Plasma (ACP) therapy involves processing a small sample of the patient’s blood to concentrate platelets and other healing factors. This concentrated solution is then injected into the knee joint to promote tissue repair and reduce inflammation, functioning in a manner similar to PRP therapy.

4) Bone Marrow Aspirate (BMA) Injection

Bone marrow aspirate (BMA) therapy involves extracting a sample of bone marrow from the patient’s hip or another suitable site. The bone marrow contains mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), which can develop into various cell types, including bone, cartilage, and fat cells. The sample is processed to concentrate the MSCs and growth factors, and this concentrated solution is then injected into the knee joint to promote tissue repair and regeneration.

BMA injections are commonly used to treat conditions such as osteoarthritis, ligament injuries, and cartilage defects in the knee, with the goal of improving joint function and reducing pain.
